This song was originally started in 1999, ostensibly for the Layabouts, but it just didn't seem to fit in anywhere. Consequently, in 2005 I polished it up and added the "rich getting richer" verse, and shifted the lot around a bit.
Amerika the Free MP3

Christmas must be approaching
and folks put up the tree
And walking through the mall
there's a camera watching me
Across the whole wide nation
the people want to see

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!

Now folks around the country
are spending on the spree
A credit card and income
Be wealthy is the key
But if you're poor and homeless
your prayer it ought to be

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
America the Free!

Upon the Hill our leaders
work hard for you and me
They're all aware that Santa
will be coming for his fee
And when the till is empty
you know how it will be

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!

The rich are getting richer
they're content to let things be
The poor are getting poorer
It's a bad disparity
The laws that guard their property
are not for you and me

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
America the Free!

I'm going to the super store
Santa Claus to see
I stand in line and bide my time
and crawl up on his knee
"Santa, I want some justice"
He smiles and says to me

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!

So if you own a bank
or a corporate entity
you may feel justified
to kick back and be care free
Just don't forget we bide our time
Some things you can't foresee

Ameri -
Ameri -
America the Free!
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
Ameri - Ameri -
America the Free!
